The Seafood Producers Cooperative (SPC) began in 1944 to provide halibut liver oil to vitamin companies, and today has grown into a full-fledged seafood organization as the largest and most successful fishermen-owned co-op in North America. SPC is a vertically integrated company that harvests, processes, and markets premium quality line-caught halibut, sablefish, salmon, and tuna. Headquartered in Bellingham, Washington with a state-of-the-art processing plant in Sitka, Alaska, SPC is comprised of over 600 owners and members who harvest the seafood from the pristine waters of the North Pacific, from Alaska to California. Because SPC is operated by fishermen and members, their products move directly from boat to plate. Each fish is individually inspected one at a time to ensure the highest quality product. In addition to a fully developed wholesale operation that serves both the foodservice industry and retail domestically and internationally, SPC also has a retail store under the Alaska Gold Brand for orders under 100 pounds. Depending on season and availability, SPC fish is available fresh, fresh-frozen, and frozen-at-sea.

The cooperative was founded to serve local fishermen, providing them with fair prices, access to processing and packaging facilities, and engaging the local economy. Their mission is to maintain an opportunity for quality-oriented fishermen, maximizing the benefits of their fishing efforts and putting the customer first. SPC is also focused on environmental sustainability and responsible management. Being MSC certified, they are part of the Alaskan-wide effort for eco-friendly fisheries management. By ensuring a healthy, wild, and sustainable harvest, SPC helps protect Alaska’s fish populations against overfishing and habitat damage, and protects the historical livelihood of local fishing families.
