Skipper Otto Community Supported Fishery

Based in Canada, Skipper Otto started in 2008, when Sonia and Shaun Strobel wanted to help Shaun’s father get a fair price for his catch and to connect directly with seafood lovers in Vancouver. Today, Skipper Otto continues to support dozens of independent fishing families through the community supported fishery (CSF) model.

The CSF focuses on the principles of fair trade, sustainability, and traceability. Skipper Otto fishermen are paid a fair price for their catch to help support local economies and fishing communities. The CSF works with fishermen who respect the marine environment and wish to protect the biodiversity of the areas where they fish. The fishermen use low impact practices to harvest their catch. When CSF members purchase an item from Skipper Otto, they can know who caught it, where it was caught, and the boat and fishing gear used.

Skipper Otto can provide a huge variety of fresh, frozen, sushi-grade, whole and portioned seafood items, along with canned and smoked seafood. A CSF member can browse Skipper Otto’s online store as catch comes in and select the seafood they would like. Members can then go to select locations across Canada to pick up their purchases. Skipper Otto’s strives to always provide its members with high-quality, fresh seafood.
